Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-loop (SIL)How are you ensuring that your systems are functioning properly before production release? Are you proactively testing for software defects and bugs to avoid field warranty?
Finding and eliminating bugs in your systems helps to:
- Avoid costly field warranty
- Maintain customer satisfaction (high JD Powers/IQS score)
- Ensure proper repeatable functionality of your systems
- Discover new edge cases for overuse, abuse, or usage which wasn’t intended
Some of our key findings through years or HILS/SILS testing are:
- Testing activities and HILS Benches can be used to find defects and verify defect-free software versions
- Some defects are intermittent, and therefore may require many repetitions before the defect is present.
- Unknown defects (which may drive field/warranty claims) can be found while testing for known defects
HILS Benches should be used both proactively and reactively to bring down total cost for you.
When used properly, HILS benches introduce automation to a very manual testing activity, saving you time and money, while allowing the bench to find bugs in a continuous manner.
Full-Service Offering
Requirements — Our team understands the goals and requirements of the client and system under test (SUT). We analyze the OEM/T1 specs and get to know the goals of the client.
Design — Design of the HILS bench electrical system and components based on the type of features/functions/requirements for testing. For IVI (In-vehicle Infotainment) systems, this may include GPS, Phone connections (wired and wireless), Tone generation, Text to Speech, etc.
Manufacturing — Our team builds the HILS bench hardware and all supporting functionality, which may include Gantry systems for interacting with the touch screen.
Programming — Our in-house team will program the system to run testing autonomously through regressing testing. The goal is to automate as much testing as possible to eliminate manual efforts. Humans should be used to review results and defect evidence, then feed that information back to the software team.
Operation — Our in-house team will continuously operate the HILS bench on your behalf to supplement your team resources. We offer this service on-site at our client’s location or on consignment at our location. Our experts will continue to add new edge cases and field defects to ensure that new software versions are defect free once released. Due to the intermittent nature of some defects, continuous operation is suggested to find those elusive bugs which only present themselves once for every 100 tests run.
